Why Not Add This Resolution to Your List?

January '21

Yes, I am actually suggesting you add a resolution to your list! Now I realize the second Friday in January was National Quitters Day when most folks already failed to keep their New Year’s resolutions. And here I am suggesting you add a new one! I only recommend this resolution, because I believe you will have a splendid year ahead if you adopt it.

So what is this practice I find so compelling? The title of the following poem states it perfectly and the poem, itself, elaborates it.

Self Observation Without Judgment
Danna Faulds

Release the harsh and pointed inner
voice. its just a throwback to the past,
and holds no truth about this moment.

Let go of self-judgment, the old,
learned ways of beating yourself up
for each imagined inadequacy.

Allow the dialogue within the mind
to grow friendlier, and quiet. Shift
out of inner criticism and life
suddenly looks very different.

I can say this only because I make
the choice a hundred times a day
to release the voice that refuses to
acknowledge the real me.

 Whats needed here isnt more
prodding toward perfection, but
intimacy – seeing clearly, and
embracing what I see.

Love, not judgment, sows the
seeds of tranquility and change.

I’m such a fan of “self observation without judgment” that I’ve devoted pages to it in my book, Midlife Magic: The 7 Day Self-Care Plan to Boost Your Energy and Make You Smile. These pages fall under the subtitle of “Accept Yourself” in DAY 1: Self Compassion. You can discover more about this book here.

Hope you do adopt this resolution! Today is National Backward Day, so it’s perfectly fine to go back and add a new resolution: ) Please let me know if you do!

Love to hear from you,
Bonnie
