Your Midlife Reinvention ABC’s (Continued)

January '17

Last June’s issue of Midlife Discovery introduced the start of my Midlife Reinvention Alphabet where each letter of the alphabet represents a quality that supports a successful midlife transition. I noted that all these words describe, “who you be”, rather than “what you do.” While “being” and “doing” are both important in navigating your way through the midlife passage, focusing on “who you be” before taking action often yields greater rewards.

Here was the start.

A ~ Aligned — to be in alignment. (For example, are your daily actions in line with your values?)

B ~ Balanced — being in harmonious or proper arrangement or adjustment, proportion, etc. (For example, are your work and your life in balance?)

C ~ Centered — well balanced and confident or serene. (For example, have you observed that you usually make much better decisions from a centered space?)

Then at my request for readers’ help in building this “who-you-be” Midlife Reinvention Alphabet, Lucy responded with:

K ~ Kind — to be aware of another in one’s daily dealings. (For example, have you chosen a soft way to comment instead of using harsh words?)

I thought I’d add three more this month.

D ~ Daring — bold or courageous; fearless or intrepid; adventurous. (For example, can you strike out and head for new territory at midlife without a sense of adventure?)

E ~ Empirical — based on observation, experience, or experiment, not theory. (For example, can you create a more meaningful life for yourself without observing what works for you and what doesn’t, despite what some expert might say?

F ~ Fascinated — extremely interested in or drawn to something or someone. (For example, might determining what arouses your curiosity lead the way to a future endeavor?)

There are now 19 letters with their accompanying words needed to complete the Midlife Reinvention Alphabet. Do you have an idea for a letter and its trait? Do send it along. I will happily credit your entry if you like. Since your letter can come from the 19 possibilities remaining in the alphabet, why not give it a try?

Happy 2017!
